About Our Chapter

Golden Key at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa believes in excellence, providing numerous opportunities for our Golden Key members to achieve in the pillars of academics, leadership and service.

We are the 130th Golden Key chapter and was chartered in April 10, 1989 by Dr. Doris Ching, former Vice President for Student Affairs, and Kyle Mark Takai, former U.S. Representative, student government president in 1989, and Editor-in-Chief of the school newspaper, Ka Leo O Hawai'i.

Our UHM Chapter is as a part of U.S. Region 5, which includes institutions in Hawaiʻi, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Puerto Rico, Wisconsin, and the US Virgin Islands.

With almost 3,600 members since 1989, the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa Golden Key chapter is a large one, and our members have gone on to do great things in their lives.

Our chapter is also very service-oriented; members perform an average of 400 hours per semester.  We have maintained Gold Standing for exemplary community outreach and have been awarded various Golden Key distinctions for our commitment to academics, service, and leadership.  We invite prospective members who are in the top 15% of their class and interested in service and leadership development.

In addition to all of the valuable membership benefits, discounts and opportunities at both the local chapter level and the Society level, The University of Hawaii at Mānoa gives special recognition to each Golden Key member within the commencement program at graduation.  Golden Key members at UH, Mānoa also have the option of being recognized during graduation by wearing their honor cords for purchase.
